PCL - More screen printing.

Marty and I have spent the day screen printing and processing screens. We had a few set backs but we've managed to get around them and get a lot of work done so we're feeling good about the progress at the moment.

As the drop in print has been cancelled due to teaching requirements I had to print the positives in the mac suites early in the morning. The positives didn't work as well as we'd hoped for because the designs had mark and dots that were to small or thin to be picked but when exposing them. So we Marty had to re design one completely and redo the exposure. This took up some time but fortunately we had other things to print whilst this was going on.

The positive on left actually worked ok but we lost a bit of the detail in the middle with the thinner lines. The positive on the right is the one which failed when exposing. The dots were too fine to be picked up by the light unit.

This is the amended positive. The dots are about 4 times bigger than before and the exposure was perfect apart from some little bits of blockage which cause some of the emulsion to peel off that and spoil the design.

Once the amended design was printed, Marty exposed it but there was some blockage on the screen which we're not sure how it got there, whether it was lack of cleaning or if it came from the exposure unit. So to keep the prints to the best quality we can we made the decision to redo the screen yet again. This meant that we didn't get the expose it by the end of the day though.

It's difficult to document the process whilst doing it as it's very hands on and needs to be done quickly and efficiently to avoid blockage on the screens and to avoid mess or ruining the products. We managed to a few shots of both of us working on the screens and printing shirts though.

Finally we managed to get the products we had printed, heat pressed and finished.

It was great to spend the entire day on one brief and get some much done. We keep noticing opportunities and possible developments for future designs for the clothes as we were going along so it's been inspiring and we definitely want to push the project further after hand in.
