SILENT MOVIE - Silent Movies reviewed

I've changed a few parts of my silents movies in response to the mock submission. Mainly I've just altered the aesthetic on some of them to make them look like a set of short motion pieces in response to the same brief.

Instead of having the word enter from behind the camera and falling as it it were a birds eye view, I've changed it so its like the word is bouncing of an unseen wall at the back of the frame. I needed to change this because the word was so pixelated near the start of the sequence and the falling effect was too quick to make out what was actually happening.

I have changed the white background to the same feathered blue mask as the other sequences for this one.

This, I feel, is one of the stronger sequences however the entry and motion of the final font wasn't in keeping with the neat execution of the other fonts. I've adapted it it by changing the position in the background that it appears and the speed of which it knocks the previous font out of the way. the movement is sharper making it feel like the new font is overpowering the previous and bouncing it out of the way.

Again I just need to change the background for this sequence to match the others.

I kept this one the same as I receive a lot of praise in the crits, and if it isn't broken then you shouldn't fix it. The sequence was noted as 'brilliantly executed' so I didn't want to risk tampering with anything. The Colour of the background is a little different to that of the others but when I changed it to be the same I lost the visibility of the word 'bounce', all the more reason to leave it unaltered.

SILENT MOVIE - 5 Final Movies & Post Production Storyboards

Silent Movie 1 - Bounce enters rebounds and spins to centre.

Silent Movie 2 - Bounce enters from behind camera view to bounce in the distance back up to the viewer. Birds eye view idea.

Silent Movie 3 - Bounce appears and drops changing colour as the word bounces.

Silent Movie 4 - Fonts bounce each other out of the way for the screen space, concept being that the bigger fonts are able to bounce the smaller ones out of the way. Playing on the definition of the word bounce 'to be physically bounced from a space or area'

Silent Movie 5 - Bounce chain reaction colour change and 'e' drops and bounces.

TOP 10 THINGS - Title Sequence Test 5

I've included the animated bears this time in this full 60 second render test. The montage of bears still hasn't been animated yet however I've spent some time at this stage tweaking the transitions going into the first scene of the brown bear and the last images fading into the title  of the programme at the end. These transitions I think are key to making my sequence work and look well done as they introduce and conclude it. The create the first and last impressions on the audience.

It has become apparent to me that I have the same Audio for my title sequence as someone else in the year group. This is a bit of a disappointment however I'm not in a position at this point to suddenly change the audio whens its directed so much of the content of the sequence, not to mention the amount of time I've already put into animating. It's a small annoyance but I'll have to live with it. On the brighter scale of things though the audio on the other piece has been edited differently so it gives some kind of difference to it at least.

TOP 10 THINGS - Title Sequence Test 4

This is the first render of a completed sequence. Completed in the sense that there is 60 seconds of content. The animated bears and type aren't in this render however it it gives a basic idea for what I want to have by the end of this project.

Looking at the static assets as the test plays through I can almost see how I would like them to being animated and moving. The next step for me now is to animate these shorter lasting images in the sequence to keep up a go consistence of animation.

A problem I can see happening is shortage of time to actually animate the majority of the images like I have done in the 4 environment scenes prior to the montage of bears. I'll have to consider other alternatives to get around this.

TOP 10 THINGS - Title Sequence Test 3

I've applied some type to the four scenes that make up the main part of my sequence, They all do pretty much the same thing which is fade in and enter - drift - fade out and exit. I've varied them slightly by changing the directions they enter and how they exit to avoid a stiff monotony.

The type needs to be moving slower in parts and I think the case is that I've made the type have to travel too far to make it an effective animation. I'm going to shorten the distance of the keyframes to see if it makes and improvement.

TOP 10 THINGS - Title Sequence Test 2

I'm making the test renders shorter from now on as I'm adding more and more information its taking up more space and more time to render so making it focussed and concentrating on different stages in my progress and my work it saves space on Vimeo and my own time.

This render was to see in the animations have worked ok on the bears in there different environments. I've kept the movements simple and tried to make them obvious but still keeping a fluidity about them.

I think they work well so far but the transition from the title 'The Bear' into the first scene needs to be redone as the scene appears before the mask has fully expanded and completed the transition.

TOP 10 THINGS - Title Sequence Test 1

This is the first test render of my 60 second title sequence for my Top 10. There hasn't been much animation going on as of yet but I've got my audio sorted for it which has helped me to make a lot of my storyboarding decisions for me.

The piece of music start quite softly which allows me to animate the first bit of type in the sequence. The idea being drawn from the Planet Earth title sequence with the title slowly emerging as the earth rotates into more and more sunlight.

From here I'm planning on having crisp imagery of different bears habitats, focussing on the most easily recognisable ones such as the brown bear, the koala bear, the pane bear and the polar bear. In these images I want to animate bears, natural to the habitat in question, whilst some descriptive type will enter the frame.

The audio gets more and more dramatic towards the end of the sequence so animations may seem too quick or go unnoticed if I'm using lots of quick image changes.

Vimeo account.

I've just created my Vimeo account. I've documented a few of the tutorials and what I did to sign up so I can look back to these posts during the upcoming module if I need to jog my memory.

<iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/339189?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/339189">Upload Tutorial</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/staff">Vimeo Staff</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>

And so it begins.
