SUMMER BRIEFING


Negotiated Briefs.




Key points:-

- what do I want for my portfolio?
- what skills do I want to develop?
- what do I want to achieve?
- what am I interested in?
- who and what do i want to design for?
- what do i want to design for them?
- competition briefs?
- collaborative briefs?

Things to do:-

- 10 briefs in standard studio brief format
- a statement of intent outlining a rationale, areas of creative focus, proposed research activities and practical development
- posts to DPB of initial research, development and evaluation


Plan of Action.

1. Find as many briefs as I can that I find interesting.
2. Define my answers the the questions above.
3. Choose suitable briefs that will allow me to creatively explore and develop my interests and achieve my goals.
4. Look further at who I want to work with.




Key points:-

- essentially its a presentation
- industrial research/studio visits - specific activities, how they inform your practice, evidence and evaluate
- dissertation proposal/research - summarise your progress, primary and secondary research, relation to your topic and your practice
- design practice - what/who do you want to be or work with/for, the work you want to produce - audiences, contexts, areas of design that you want to be involved with
- independent research
- negotiated briefs
- professional skills plan - use the handouts - access and evaluate your skills and progress periodically, be informed by your experiences to know where you need to improve and where your strengths lie.


Things to do:-

- produce and 7-10min powerpoint presentation
- complete skills profile and plan, rationale, statement of intent
- entries to PPD blog


Plan of Action.


1. research into the studios and people i'm interested in visiting and getting in touch with.
2. visit studios and document using questionnaires and photography.
3. make gift packs to give out at visits.
4. create a plan to visit studios and get involved with various projects/events.
5. research dissertation topic.
6. use the visits and an opportunity to get primary research on dissertation topics.
7. access and evaluate myself for the first part of my professional skills plan.
8. begin/continue personal projects for design practice.
